Goat-Assisted Intervention
Silver Creek Animal Sanctuary recognizes that goat-assisted interventions (including both goat-assisted activities and goat-assisted therapy) for special needs children and adults, as well as foster children, takes many forms, often dependent on the perspective of the participant.
For some of our guests, intervention success is achieved merely by watching our cats, goats, and llamas from a comforting distance. Others attain a soothing, calming, and focusing effect from the constant, tactile stimulation of rhythmic brushing.
Our visually impaired guests are provided with an array of new and unusual textures and smells. And still others form therapeutic bonds with particular animals which promote improvement in their physical, social, emotional, and cognitive function.
Safety for our human and 4-legged participants is our first concern.
We Are Flexible in Meeting NeedsOur goat-assisted interventions are varied and depend on the needs and abilities of the individual.
Our programs are continually developing, evolving, and improving as we become able to offer additional modalities and see what works best for certain guest populations. |
Thank you to Hoegger Supply Company for donating coloring books for our young special needs visitors! |
We are working to establish a 4-H Program for Special Needs Children.
